Facial Nerve TumorsBoth benign and malignant tumors can arise from the facial nerve, anywhere along its course. The most common of these are geniculate ganglion hemangiomas and schwannomas, both of which are benign but can cause serious problems if untreated and allowed to enlarge sufficiently. Malignant facial nerve tumors are exceedingly rare, and can represent either primary malignancies of the nerve, or metastases from distant sites.
