On behalf of the entire staff of the Facial Nerve Center at Mass Eye and Ear, we wanted to reach out to let you know that we are thinking about you during this difficult time, a time of uncertainty and unchartered waters surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Please understand that while your appointments at the Facial Nerve Clinic have been canceled, we are working diligently on rescheduling you for the near future. We understand you may be waiting for your first physical therapy appointment to get your muscles moving, and for this we are working towards gaining approval from the hospital management to approve telehealth /virtual appointments. This may take up to 6 -8 weeks to launch, and when it comes to fruition, we will contact patients.
In the meantime, there are still a few things that we’d encourage you to do while you wait. If you have already had a facial physical therapy appointment, please continue to do the recommended facial exercises which may include the specific facial muscle massages and stretches, and the movement exercises with or without mirror feedback. For those of you that have synkinesis, it is imperative that you diligently massage the muscles and mindfully relax the tight synkinetic muscles, including meditation with the audio relaxation provided at your appointment, and provided in our prior post. We will post weekly therapy recommendations, so please continue to follow us. You may be in need of your botox, and your appointment may be canceled, so therefore those exercises are even more important during this down time. We promise we will be doing our utmost to reschedule both your physical therapy and botox appointments to keep you on track.
Stay healthy, positive and mindful of flattening the curve, as we as a clinic, state, country and world work together during the unexpected COVID -19 pandemic. We are hopeful and look forward to seeing you soon.
