This week we welcome Johnny Lu MD, MS to the Facial Nerve Center!
Johnny is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Reconstructive Microsurgery, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Linkou, Taipei. A Master's of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) scholar at Washington University in St. Louis, School of Medicine. And a Research fellow at Alison Snyder-Warwick Lab, Susan Mackinnon Lab, Division of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Johnny was born in Taiwan with his family immigrating to Canada at the age of 8. He spent 10 years there before returning to Taiwan for medical school and plastic surgery residency at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and then taking a research fellowship in St. Louis.
Dr. Lu wanted to experience the Facial Nerve Center at Massachusetts Eye & Ear because it is very specialized. He states that Dr. Hadlock and Dr. Jowett are highly decorated experts in their field. And that this is such a unique facility because it's so focused on facial paralysis. The protocol and the way things operate here are so different and very advanced with the tools, programs, and positions at the FNC.
After his fellowship at St.Louis, he plans to return to his own practice in Taiwan majoring in peripheral nerve reconstruction.
Dr. Lu will be an Executive Chairman at the 2nd Instructional Course for Facial Paralysis Reconstruction in Taiwan in April 2020 with Dr. Hadlock and Dr. Jowett in attendance.
